Eddie Johnson suffers hip flexor injury

Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson was forced to leave Wednesday’s CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal game against Mexico’s Santos Laguna with a hip flexor injury.

The 27 year old subbed into Seattle’s 6-1 defeat in the 62nd minute for David Estrada, but then had to come out in the 81st minute and was replaced by Roger Levesque.

The extent of Johnson’s injury wasn’t immediately made known, but it’s hard to see him figuring into Saturday’s 7 p.m. MLS opener against Toronto FC, a CCL semifinalist after upsetting the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Johnson, who played 12 minutes in last week’s first leg, had been dealing with a hamstring injury, as well.
