Eddie Johnson, Mauro Rosales unlikely to play Saturday against San Jose

Eddie Johnson, who’s nursing a hip injury, was a full participant in Sounders FC’s practice Monday at Starfire and should be again Wednesday. Despite the improvement, coach Sigi Schmid said that Saturday’s 7 p.m. home game against San Jose “might be a little bit too soon” for the forward’s return.

“We want to be careful because we felt maybe we pushed him in a little too quickly last time,” said Schmid, referring to a hamstring injury Johnson sustained earlier in preseason.

Midfielder Mauro Rosales is also doing more and more on the sidelines at training. He hasn’t been reincorporated into the group yet, so he might have a little bit longer to go when it comes to the sprained knee.

Schmid said he probably won’t play Saturday and will be evaluated week by week after the Earthquakes game.

Others still dealing with injury, to varying degrees, are midfielder Brad Evans (hamstring), defender Adam Johansson (hamstring), defender Andrew Duran (knee), goalkeeper Josh Ford (knee), defender/midfielder Michael Tetteh (hamstring), forward Babayele Sodade (knee) and midfielder Steve Zakuani (leg) — not to mention, recently bought out forward O’Brian White (leg).

In that group, Evans, Duran and Johansson looked furthest along in their recoveries Monday.
