Fans to red card intolerance on Saturday

racismredcard.jpgKeep on the lookout for a display in the stands Saturday at CenturyLink Field.

Right after the national anthem before a 7 p.m. kickoff against San Jose, several supporters groups around the stadium will hold up red cards to show unity against racism and homophobia. There will also be a banner with a similar message to end intolerance.

You might also see something on the stadium video-boards.

Participating groups in the display include Gorilla FC, North End Faithful, Eastside Supporters and La Barra Fueza Verde. Fans not seated in those sections are encouraged to bring their own red cards to participate.

Other supporters groups around the country have shown similar displays recently as a way to recognize International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21). The message is particularly relevant following the Colin Clark incident here last week and others around the world of soccer.
