Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

April 8, 2012 at 1:31 PM

Busy week (Sunday links)

Seattle Sounders FC Logo.jpgFirst off, a happy Easter and Passover for those celebrating.

The Sounders returned home Sunday after earning a hard-fought point at RFK Stadium last night. It sets up an interesting week that could see the returns of midfielder Mauro Rosales (sprained knee) and defender Adam Johansson (hamstring strain). We also could see an increased role for forward Eddie Johnson, who was able to get through 25 minutes Saturday without any setbacks.

Not to mention, this week could be Brian Mullan‘s first trip to Seattle after his leg-breaking tackle on Steve Zakuani last April. Mullan didn’t come last year.

There will be lots more local action, too. The Sounders host rival Portland in an MLS Reserve League game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. Parking is $5 (free with a Starfire membership).

The Sounders Women kick off some preseason action at 7:30 p.m. Monday against Seattle Pacific. We were told last week that Hope Solo, Stephanie Cox, Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux are expected to be available (limited tickets are still available on the team website). The Women also play Seattle. U. at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Starfire. Their home games this season will be streamed online.

— Here’s some perspective on Monday’s exhibition from the Seattle Pacific women.

— Soccer by Ives has its Best XI for the month and a couple Sounders make the second team.

Jimmy Conrad chatted with Grant Wahl on The Mixer.

— Around the world of soccer, Leo Messi is up to 60 goals this season after a 4-1 win against Zaragoza, Clint Dempsey scored two more as well to up his club record to 15 goals this EPL season, and Arsenal all but clinched the championship for Manchester United with a 1-0 win against Manchester City.

— Be sure to check out the league website for coverage of the MLS weekend, but I had to pull out this amazing goal celebration by Kei Kamara and Co. (below). And here’s a great feature by ESPN on the man from Sierra Leone.
