Record-setting Red Bulls (Tuesday links)

New York Red Bulls Logo.jpgThe New York Red Bulls have never lacked for talent. Chemistry, discipline and attitude were always some of the main concerns.

But things are certainly clicking these days as the team has earned three straight wins by three-goal margins. In fact, as ProSoccerTalk confirmed through the Elias Sports Bureau, that’s a first in MLS.

Not only that, Thierry Henry has won MLS Player of the Week three times in a row — also a first in the league.

The Red Bulls are soaring up power rankings all over the place. Do you think they can keep it up? Is Henry is line for an MVP trophy? Can Kenny Cooper continue to produce?

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— I was out at Starfire Stadium last night for some Sounders Women’s action. Here’s my story from the 5-0 exhibition win against Seattle Pacific and here’s our photo gallery.

— Here’s a good video interview with Sounders FC U-23s coach Darren Sawatzky.

— Sounds like we’ll learn the MLS All-Star Game opponent Wednesday, though some reports have hinted it will be Chelsea. It will also be the “world’s first-ever smart match.” You’ll have to check out this link to learn what that means.

— Pressure is building up down in Portland after another disappointing result. Defender Lovel Palmer is shouldering some of the blame and captain Jack Jewsbury was a recent guest on MLSsoccer.com’s ExtraTime Radio podcast.

— A couple Sounders are ranked somewhat high in the latest MLS Castrol Index.

— Lastly, Clint Dempsey continued his incredible scoring pace for Fulham with another goal (though there are worries it could become an own goal) against Chelsea on Monday. Here’s a story that looks at a parallel between him and another American who can’t stop scoring, Herculez Gomez.
