Sigi Schmid on potentially reacquiring Mike Fucito: “We had talked to (Montreal) about it but we couldn’t come to an agreement.”

As has been covered previously, the Sounders-Timbers rivalry took an interesting turn Friday when Mike Fucito was traded from Montreal to Portland.

A Sounders a couple months ago, a Timber today.

Seattle coach Sigi Schmid was asked for his thoughts on the move following the team’s training game against UW.

“I feel sorry for Mike,” a smiling Schmid answered. “He’s probably got to wear an undershirt because I think their green jersey is going to make his skin itch.”

“I don’t think Portland would ever make a trade directly with us,” the coach continued, “but obviously they traded with Montreal. For Mike, who wasn’t getting a look at Montreal, maybe this presents an opportunity for him.”

So did the Sounders look at potentially reacquiring Fucito?

“Yeah,” Schmid said. “We had talked to (Montreal) about it but we couldn’t come to an agreement.”
