Training game updates (Saturday links)

I’ll have updates from today’s training game vs. UW on Twitter, so be sure to look out for those. Coach Sigi Schmid said the 60-minute match will give a good indication regarding the availability of Mauro Rosales and Adam Johansson for next weekend’s game in Chicago.

The Sounders have played training games previously against Gonzaga and Oregon State, and Schmid was asked about why college teams are an attractive opponent for exhibitions like this.

“Part of it is availability, for sure, being able to play a Division I team like UW, and I think Jamie [Clark] is doing a great job of building the program there right now,” said Schmid. “For us it’s a good run-out, and it’s tough to get another team. The PDL season isn’t really going so you don’t want to play that group at this stage.”

A symbiotic relationship with UW will also allow the Sounders to keep track of their academy products, many of which are becoming Huskies.

Here are a couple links:

— There’s a big game in Spain later today that you might want to check out, along with your regular MLS action.

Sean Morris, a local product, is featured on SoundersU23.com.

— San Siro, the home venue for AC Milan and Inter Milan, appears it will get a hybrid (grass/artificial turf) field in June. From the story: “The pitch has been in poor shape for years, ever since a partial roof was installed at the stadium for the 1990 World Cup, reducing exposure to sun.” Interesting.

— And, lastly, if Roger Levesque won the lottery…
