The Sounders will play their 100th MLS regular-season game today in Chicago.
For my story in today’s paper, we talked to players, coach Sigi Schmid and GM Adrian Hanauer about the milestone and what stands out in the previous 99 games. Many looked back to Game 1 — the franchise opener in 2009 — as most memorable, but Schmid offered a few others, as well:
“The win at Salt Lake last year, the comeback in Kansas City — there are a lot of other games in there that definitely are memorable. … (Winning in Columbus in 2009) was a good one. We went back a couple of times and won. (Blaise) Nkufo’s hat trick, as well. Going into L.A. and winning as well when we went down there early on.”
How about you? I’ve come up with a short list for the purposes of this poll, but don’t feel restricted to that.
Which of the first 99 regular-season game stand out to you?
