Arlo White is back in town.
That’s right. Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. home game against Philadelphia will be broadcast nationally on the NBC Sports Network with the former Sounders FC announcer on the call. Here are some of his pregame thoughts on the home side:
“CenturyLink Field will be rocking on Saturday afternoon to the tune of 38,000 raucous Sounders fans. They create an atmosphere like no other in MLS and the Sounders have so many attacking threats. Strikers Fredy Montero and Eddie Johnson are a real handful in attack, and I don’t think there is a more skillful player in MLS than the Argentine winger Mauro Rosales.”
Seattle beat Houston, 2-0, in an earlier game on the NBCSN in Week 2.
Let’s get to some links:
* * *
— The Sounders Women, who host the University of Washington in a sold-out 7:30 p.m. exhibition tonight, will have their last open tryout on May 19 from 1-3 p.m. at Starfire. The team will have a self-supported and sustainable supporters group in the Jet City Auxiliary.
— The folks at Starfire announced a partnership agreement with adidas and Sounders FC on Thursday.
— Sigi Schmid joined the MLSsoccer.com guys for the latest episode of ExtraTime Radio. Seahawks/Sounders president Peter McLoughlin gave this interview and soccer came up a fair amount. Here’s an update on recovering forward Babayele Sodade.
— All 68 goals by Messi this season, why not?
— Lastly, Philly.com takes a long look at Saturday’s reunion of ex-teammates Eddie Johnson and Freddy Adu, each of whom has returned to MLS after struggles in Europe.
One of the highlights of the post was this video from when both were on loan at Aris in Greece. Johnson scored a fine goal off an assist from Adu. The goalkeeper that gets nutmegged on the play, you might recognize as Michael Gspurning.
