Roger Levesque named MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Month (Tuesday links)

levesque mug 2012.jpgFirst off, I’m always looking for reasons to run this mug shot.

Secondly, Roger Levesque certainly deserves some recognition for being named May’s MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Month. The versatile Sounders, as you may remember, was a part of the “Men In Kilts” fundraiser put by the Ronald McDonald house.

According to this MLSsoccer.com story, “Levesque helped the organization raise $35,000 — $10,000 more than its goal.”

This is far from Levesque’s only involvement in the community. He’s also a frequent participant in America SCORES Seattle events.

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— As suspected, the Sounders are jumped up to be the No. 1 team in power rankings all over: MLSsoccer.com, Goal.com, Soccer By Ives, ProSoccerTalk.

Fredy Montero is up for MLS Goal of the Week for his wonderstrike vs. the Galaxy. Predictably, no Sounder up for MLS Save of the Week.

— The Sounders Women made another signing Monday, adding defender Kelli Smith to the mix.

— Regarding Wednesday’s opponent, FC Dallas is thin at forward options with Blas Perez suspended and a decision on Brek Shea‘s availability should be coming today. He’s been dealing with turf toe.

— Lots of news from around MLS: former Galaxy midfielder Chris Birchall has signed with Columbus, Portland forward Bright Dike will be going out on loan, well known Spanish forward Raul is being courted by Philadelphia, and Rafa Marquez has served his suspension and eligible again for the Red Bulls.

— And more: Edu has received his clearance and is ready to go for the Rapids, Chris Wondolowski (who can’t stop scoring) was named MLS Player of the Week, LA’s Robbie Keane was named to Ireland’s Euro 2012 roster, New York is interested in some AC Milan stars, and read why Houston midfielder Geoff Cameron thinks other teams are going to die in BBVA Compass Stadium.

— The Galaxy will host Real Madrid again this summer. Here’s a look at the recent history between the two clubs.

— How did the Sounders-Union TV ratings compare to LA-New York? Find out here.

— Lastly, Blackburn lost at home to Wigan yesterday and will be relegated after this EPL season. The bigger news was that a chicken got onto the field as the home fans weren’t too thrilled about how things were going.
