Today marks one of my previously scheduled furlough days, and it happens to fall on a Sounders’ travel day, so there shouldn’t be much news.
As we anticipate a return to action Friday (both for me and the team) here’s a questionnaire that I thought could be fun:
1. What has been most impressive to you about Sounders FC’s season so far?
2. Who is one player that has surprised you this season?
3. Where would you still like to see the team improve?
4. If every player on the team was healthy, what would be your ideal starting lineup?
5. What’s your one bold prediction for the rest of the season?
As a side note, highlights of last night’s game were featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter and Bryan Meredith‘s save was also included in the opening montage — not too shabby.

— In other MLS action, New York beat Houston, 1-0, behind another Kenny Cooper goal. Real Salt Lake played to a 0-0 tie in Chicago. RSL captain Kyle Beckerman earned his fifth yellow card but won’t be suspended for Saturday’s game in Seattle as he had earned a “good behavior” bonus, which essentially cancels out one card, after going three games without a booking.
— Here’s some great data to help make the argument that Osvaldo Alonso is the best defensive midfielder in MLS. In fact, it might close the case.
— I missed it in the MLS injury report, but (as first noticed by du Nord) it appears Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath suffered a concussion Saturday against the Sounders and played on. The incident that apparently led to the injury was in the 10th minute, when he was hit in the head by David Estrada, who was trying to get on the end of a Mauro Rosales cross.
— Six of the Sounders Women were included in the squad that U.S. women’s national team Pia Sundhage called up for a camp from Thursday to May 25. Also, the USL W-League season is about to get under way.
— Here’s a Q&A with USMNT midfielder Jermaine Jones.
— The Kitsap Pumas will be participating in a 5K to promote breast cancer awareness. The event is Saturday and more details are available here.
— Atletico Madrid, your 2011-12 Europa League champion.
— Lastly, here’s a great video find by yamsmos on Twitter relayed by the new guys over at The Seattle Offside. Be sure to turn on the captioning as it’s pretty funny. An enjoyable seven minutes and you can even watch without sound (perhaps as a distraction from work).
