Video: Manchester City are Champions

First off, congratulations to Manchester City, English Premier League champions for the first time in 44 years.

Roberto Mancini‘s side made it interesting however, needing two goals in stoppage time against 10-man QPR to sneak a 3-2 win and secure the title. That’s right two goals in stoppage time.

Manchester United finished level with its crosstown rival on points, but lost on goal difference. Though give City credit, they beat the Red Devils twice head-to-head this season.

At the bottom, Tim Ream, Stuart Holden and Bolton were relegated after a 2-2 tie against Stoke City.

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— To kick off the PDL season, the Sounders FC U-23s beat Vancouver, 2-1, on Friday and drew 1-1 with Victoria on Saturday.

— The reigning PDL champs, the Kitsap Pumas, kick off U.S. Open Cup action Tuesday with a first-round matchup at home against Cal FC. Here’s a good story on former Puma Dan Scott, the younger brother of Zach Scott who’s playing in Tampa Bay.

— In MLS action, Houston opened the super-orange BBVA Compass Stadium with a 1-0 win against D.C. United. Fitting that a star like Brad Davis got the goal. You can check out the rest of the scores from the weekend here.

— New York Red Bulls defender Wilman Conde was arrested Saturday morning and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

— In the women’s soccer scene, here’s some more info on the rumored W-PRO. Sounds like it would be a professional league in the USL, which already has the amateur W-League. This is in light of recent rumors that WPS might not be able to resume operations in 2013.
