Ruffneck Cup set to kick off (Thursday links)

ruffneckcup.jpgAs we count down to the first Cascadia Cup game this weekend (Seattle at Vancouver), competition from another local trophy will also get underway.

Four local PDL teams are competing for the Ruffneck Cup this season — the Sounders FC U-23s, the Kitsap Pumas, Washington Crossfire and the North Sound SeaWolves — and the first match is Saturday in Bremerton as the Pumas host the Sounders U-23.

“Ruffneck Scarves is very excited about getting involved with another great Northwest soccer rivalry and tradition,” said Jeff McIntyre, the founder of the competition in a news release. “We are always looking at ways we can get involved in our local soccer community, and what better way to show our support than to sponsor a local Puget Sound derby amongst four clubs that promote player development with a high level of competition.”

The winning club will be award 100 championship scarves by Ruffneck, along with earning the trophy. Find more information on the competition here.
