The Sounders resume training today in anticipation of Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup third-round game against Atlanta, but first I wanted to offer my gratitude for the sacrifice of those who serve in the military.

As a reminder, Seattle purchased hosting rights from the Silverbacks of the NASL, so the game will be at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila at 7 p.m. The Sounders are aiming to become the first team in the almost-100-year history of the tournament to win four straight.

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— The Sounders Women won their W-League opener, 2-0, on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Seattle got second-half goals from Megan Manthey and Veronica Perez. Katie Hultin recorded four saves to earn the shutout. The Sounders Women’s home opener is May 31 against the Colorado Rush and tickets are still available.

— In other local women’s soccer, WPSL teams Issaquah and Emerald City also got wins.

— Sounds like those impossible-to-see numbers on the new U.S. soccer jerseys will be changing soon.

The latest MLS standings have the Sounders third in the West and sixth in overall points.

— Lastly, here’s a video of Landon Donovan being reunited with the ball he scored late against Algeria in the 2010 World Cup to help the U.S. win its group.
