U.S. Open Cup draw would send Sounders on the road in the quarterfinals

usoc logo.jpgHere are the results of the U.S. Soccer draw for hosting rights in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals (the round is scheduled to be played on June 26):

Seattle Sounders FC (MLS)/Cal FC (USASA) Winner at San Jose Earthquakes (MLS): Kezar Stadium; San Francisco, Calif.; 7:30 p.m. PT

OR

Seattle Sounders FC (MLS)/Cal FC (USASA) Winner at Minnesota Stars FC (NASL): National Sports Center; Blaine, Minn.; 5:30 p.m. PT

As you can see, if the Sounders beat Cal FC on Tuesday, they would go on the road regardless of the San Jose/Minnesota fourth-round winner. But as we also learned a few weeks ago, hosting rights can be negotiated.

And Minnesota has proven to be receptive to those negotiations, having sold hosting rights to its third-round game to Real Salt Lake.

You would think the Sounders would be motivated to pursue it, as well, looking at this potential schedule:

Sunday, June 24 — at Portland

Tuesday, June 26 — at San Jose/Minnesota (U.S. Open Cup)

Saturday, June 30 — at New England Revolution

Wednesday, July 4 — at Real Salt Lake
