Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

Down to eight (Wednesday links)

usoc logo.jpgThe U.S. Open Cup is down to the final eight after the conclusion of the fourth round Tuesday. Here’s an updated bracket and some tournament scoring leaders, courtesy of theCup.us.

Early this morning, I posted a video of Osvaldo Alonso‘s tremendous goal, but full highlights are now available.

Also, don’t miss this rant from D.C. United coach Ben Olsen after his team’s loss to Philadelphia. Another MLS loser was New York, whose coach both supported Sigi Schmid‘s call for transparency with the Open Cup draw, but also got a little shot in at the Sounders at the same time.

Lastly, before we get to the rest of the links, Soccer By Ives takes a look at the three lower-division teams (all from the third-tier USL Pro) still remaining in the tournament.

* * *

— Sounders general manager and part owner, Adrian Hanauer, received a nice honor the other day.

— Around MLS, the Galaxy had a couple players (Edson Buddle and Dan Keat) go under the knife and here’s a Q&A with Crew technical director Brian Bliss.

— The U.S. moved up a spot in the latest FIFA world rankings.

— ESPN has information available on its Euro ’12 coverage team, which as we know includes former Sounders goalkeeper and current match analyst Kasey Keller.

— Also, former NASL Sounder Harry Redknapp wants some assurances with his contract from Tottenham, which I would think many would agree he deserves.
