Sounders set for U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal on the road at San Jose

On to the next round.

And in case the tweet posted above isn’t clear enough, the Sounders are scheduled to play their U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes. The date is currently set for June 26 (but I wouldn’t be surprised if that ends up getting pushed back a day since Seattle has a game in Portland on June 24) and kickoff will be 7:30 p.m. at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

If you’re thinking the Sounders will try to purchase hosting rights, and you have to think a call will be made, San Jose doesn’t much look like a team interested in selling. That’s evident in this Earthquakes’ retweet.

Either way, it will be the only all-MLS quarterfinal. Here are the others:

Harrisburg City Islanders (USL PRO) at Philadelphia Union (MLS)

Dayton Dutch Lions (USL PRO) at Sporting Kansas City (MLS)

Charlotte Eagles (USL PRO) at Chivas USA (MLS)

What do you think of the matchup(s)?
