Poll: Is it time to change goalkeepers?

Sounders FC goalkeeper Bryan Meredith saw four shots get past him Saturday in Montreal, and he could have done better on one in particular — the Impact’s third through Andrew Wenger.

There have been a couple other goals allowed in Meredith’s 7.5 games (e.g. at Vancouver, at Chivas USA) that have begged some questions, as well.

Coach Sigi Schmid was asked today about those ups and downs.

“He’s a young goalkeeper, and his calm and his demeanor are one of his strengths,” Schmid said of Meredith. “On the first goal (Saturday), I don’t think there’s much he could do. On the second goal, the same. … The third goal he’s got to save — he knows that and he’ll be the first one to admit that. Sometimes things aren’t falling your way, sometimes it’s good to take a step back, and sometimes you need a little bit of a talking to. What that final answer is we’ll know on Wednesday, but it will be one of those three.”

Certainly mentioning the option of Meredith taking a “step back” reaffirms that Schmid is considering starting Andrew Weber against Sporting Kansas City. Meredith and Weber had been locked in a pretty tight battle for the No. 2 position earlier in the season behind Michael Gspurning, who continues to recover from a hip injury.

What would you do?

Who would you pick as Seattle’s starting goalkeeper Wednesday?
