Bragging rights to Portland (Monday links)

Portland was a winner on the field Sunday, but also a winner with this tremendous tifo. As noted here, there were inclusions of the city flag, the Cascadia flag, logos for both the team and the Timbers Army, and, of course, the late Clive Charles.

Estimates were that it covered more than 20,000 square feet. Not bad at all. (Neither were ESPN’s ratings).

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— Looks like San Jose will stream Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal. There will be radio coverage from the Sounders on 97.3 KIRO-FM.

— It also looks like Christian Tiffert was offered a three-year contract by Seattle, which he called “enticing” according the translation of this German report.

— The Sounders Women had a nice sendoff game for its Olympic stars — Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Sydney Leroux — with a 4-0 win against the Santa Clarita Blue Heat. They aren’t expected to play for Seattle again this season. Video highlights here.

— The Sounders fell to the bottom half of ESPN’s MLS power rankings, and expect that trend to continue in other rankings this week.

Patrick Ianni and Eddie Johnson were each among the finalists for MLS Goal of the Week.

— Elsewhere around the league, Andriy Shevchenko continues to weigh his options stateside (though water was thrown on the D.C. United rumors), Daniel Hernandez is a little frustrated in Dallas, if Kaka makes a move to New York — and that’s a big if — this report says it wouldn’t be until after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and here’s a good story on the challenge of attracting players to MLS and some salary talk.

— Lastly, you have to check out this move from New York’s Heath Pearce
