The Sounders earned the best five-game start in franchise history this season and kept up that “best ever” pace through Game 15.
A long winless streak, however, allowed the 2009 Sounders to catch back up through 16 games, and following Saturday’s tie in New England, the expansion version of the team now boasts the claim of having the best record through 17 games.
Here’s a year-by-year comparison:
2012: 7-5-5 (26 points)
2011: 6-4-7 (25 points)
2010: 5-8-4 (19 points)
2009: 7-3-7 (28 points)
One last note, anything but a win Wednesday in Real Salt Lake will also drop the Sounders behind the 2011 team’s pace through 18 games (7-4-7). The 2009 team tied its next game to go to 7-3-8.

Any thoughts on this year’s team being behind the 2009 team’s pace? Disappointed? Surprised it took this long?
