Here are some more quotes from Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid after Tuesday’s training session at Starfire. One note from training is it doesn’t appear Steve Zakuani made the trip to Salt Lake City for Wednesday’s game.

(I know it’s been a while, but can you explain what went wrong in Christian Sivebaek’s brief stint as a Sounder?) “It just didn’t work out from a standpoint of early on he got some minutes, but he missed a lot of preseason with little niggling injuries that set him back. He got some opportunities in games early on that he didn’t take advantage of and then overall there were guys that we thought had pushed past him in terms of what we saw at training. Sometimes, for whatever reason, things don’t work out. The timing was wrong. It was just a decision that we felt was best in his interest and our interest at the time.”
(How would you describe Servando Carrasco’s place on this team?) “Servando’s still an important player to us. I think early in the season he didn’t get off to the best start, but as of late I think he’s played fairly well. I thought he had a good game in San Jose in the Open Cup match and he’s come on and played some decent minutes for us as of late. He’s looked very sharp at practice, as well.”
(Do you make much of the fact that the team hasn’t had one MLS Save of the Week nominee? Ed note: That Bryan Meredith’s effort in Dallas, at the 2:14 mark, wasn’t nominated was egregious and that context was included in the question.) “Nah, I haven’t really noticed it. I don’t know how many shots we’ve given up. We generally haven’t given up a lot of shots. Yeah, there’s some opportunities where goalkeepers can come up with some big saves for us, but a lot of times we really haven’t been in that position to come with up with some big saves. If a goalkeeper’s coming up with Saves of the Week all the time for your team, that means the other team is getting Shots of the Week, too, that don’t score.”
(Would it be poetic to end the winless streak against the Real Salt Lake team that started it?) “Sometimes that’s the way streaks go. I remember when I was coaching at UCLA we had a 39-game unbeaten streak and it started with Fresno State and it ended with Fresno State. … So sometimes it seems that’s just the way streaks go. A lot of times the team that it starts with is the team that it ends with.”
