Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

July 4, 2012 at 9:00 PM

Final: Sounders 0, Real Salt Lake 0, live blog

Final. Sounders FC 0, Real Salt Lake 0. It wasn’t pretty, but Seattle earns its first shutout since May 9 in a second-straight road tie.

90+1′: Four minutes of stoppage time.

90′: Free kick to RSL and Meredith comes out, but doesn’t get there. It skips out for a goal kick.

88′: Cato wide open at the far post but can’t finish!

84′: Burch on for Flaco. RSL had a shot just go wide moments ago.

73′: Cato in for Montero. Rosales to forward.

69′: Montero with some nice skill, but his shot deflects to Rimando.

68′: Johnson with some space on the left but doesn’t pull the trigger. Seattle escapes the danger.

65′: Corner kick to the Sounders. Off Rose, I think, at the far post and out for a goal kick.

64′: Seattle sub. Andy Rose for Brad Evans. RSL swapped Luis Gil out for Ned Grabavoy earlier.

63′: EJ gets some space on the left, but rolls a shot wide. Seattle starting to see a little more of the ball.

60′: Schmid and Schmetzer up off the bench as Grajeda swallows his whistle after Rosales goes down.

59′: Rosales with a great cross on a free kick, Scott rises well, but heads it wide.

57′: Seattle with some rare possession, but no one gets on the end of Rosales’ left-footed cross.

56′: Wingert with another foul, this time on Flaco, and goes into the book.

54′: Saborio is able to turn and shoot in traffic, but it’s right to Meredith.

52′: Saborio finishes an Espindola pass for an apparent goal, but the offside flag is up. Still 0-0.

49′: Evans trips up Morales from behind. Morales sets up Beckerman for a one-timer and it just misses the top corner.

48′: Parke and Saborio get tangled going for the ball. Parke called for the foul. Saborio stays down for a bit.

46′: Good stuff from RSL early, but Beckerman just misses Johnson in the box with a pass.

46′: We’re under way in the second half. No changes for either team.

Halftime: Stat sheet shows Hurtado with a yellow card for dissent. Saborio booked for dangerous play and Gonzalez for an off the ball foul.

Halftime: Some stats. Shots–RSL 7-3. Shots on goal–RSL 2-1. Corners–2-2. Saves–SEA 2-1. Fouls–RSL 7-3. Duels–RSL 56%. Possession–RSL 65.8%.

Halftime. Sounders FC 0, Real Salt Lake 0. Seattle absorbing a lot of pressure but limiting RSL’s dangerous chances.

45′: Three minutes of stoppage time. Gonzalez booked as play goes on, but RSL knocks it out for a goal kick.

44′: Johnson draws the foul after a Borchers shove. Rosales first cross is cleared and then he can’t control a Carrasco pass.

42′: Play resumes. Wingert with another cross out for a goal kick.

41′: Some extracurricular activity here. Alvaro Saborio with a shot on Leo Gonzalez. Leo falls down and Saborio (of all people) yells at him to get up. Flaco bear hugs Saborio away. Yellow cards to Saborio and I think Hurtado (he might’ve meant to give it to Flaco?).

39′: Espindola gets free, but Parke recovers. Gil follows up with a cross that sails out for a goal kick.

37′: Meredith’s distribution has been spotty so far, at best.

36′: Montero with some good defensive work tracking down Gil.

34′: Corner kick to Seattle. Rosales will take it. Scott wins it, but his header doesn’t come close.

32′: Corner kick to RSL. Morales takes it. Borchers win it, but Carrasco is able to scramble it off the line.

28′: Sounders trying to grab more of a hold on this one. Rosales with another cross, but Rimando makes an acrobatic one-handed grab. RSL forwards caught offside twice on the other end.

25′: Beckerman tries his luck from distance, but Meredith has it. I wonder if RSL will test him often.

24′: Better stuff from the Sounders as Rosales gets a cross in from the right side, but Rimando is brave to punch it away.

23′: Rocket shot by Montero, but it’s well wide.

22′: Corner kick to RSL. Morales takes it. Saborio heads it wide.

18′: More pressure through Espindola, but Hurtado blocks it away. Wingert cross cleared by Parke. One-sided stuff now.

16′: MISS! Best chance of the game so far, but Saborio heads a cross from Espindola over the goal.

16′: Mansally making an impact from the left side. Earns a cross, but hits it too close to Meredith.

13′: For those asking about the chat, I believe the price goes up the more traffic you get, which I believe is an issue. Elsewhere, Mansally makes a nice move to get a shot from distance, but hits it wide.

13′: Free kick to RSL. Morales takes it. Johnson clears.

11′: Eddie Johnson with a driven shot, but Rimando gathers it. Wingert got a warning from the ref after another foul, this time on Flaco. He hit Rosales earlier.

8′: Mansally harasses Rosales and Grajeda calls that one. The free kick comes to Montero at the back post, but he only gets a glancing header and its out for a goal kick.

5′: Rosales is back in.

3′: Mauro Rosales down and stays down after a hard challenge. Sigi Schmid having a heated discussion with the fourth official. Rosales limps off the field under his own power.

2′: Corner kick for Seattle. Rosales’ cross is cleared by Mansally, who’s debuting for RSL as a left back. Another debutant, Watson-Siriboe, is starting in at center back.

1′: And we’re off!

Pregame: Here’s the walkout. Sounders in green shirts/shorts with blue socks. RSL in all red. Beckerman and Mauro are the captains.

Pregame: Digging up some stats before kickoff and it appears Seattle is one of four MLS teams without a win this season after conceding the first goal. Montreal, Toronto and Philadelphia are the others.

Pregame: No gameday chat today because Cover it Live has become a pay service. We’re looking at other chat options, but until I learn how to use the new program, I’ll stick with the live blog.

Pregame: The lineups have posted in the post below this one. Any thoughts?
