Zach Scott on his ECS tifo: “If I could’ve run up there and shook everyone’s hands, I would have. It was so cool.”

My photography skills aren’t great, as has been covered before, but this was the view I had from the press box of the ECS tifo for longtime Sounders defender Zach Scott. Here’s video captured by the team with a better look.

The Hawaii native is shown on a surfboard, which includes a likeness of an FC Dallas player, presumably Brek Shea, who Scott has been done well against in the past. The message reads: Hanging ten for the Sounders in honor of Scott’s 10 full seasons with the team dating the lower leagues.

I asked Scott — who has already set career highs in MLS games (14), starts (13), minutes (1,175), shots (10), goals (one), assists (one) — about it after Monday’s practice.

“It was so cool,” he said. “It really caught me off guard. I hadn’t even seen it originally and then somebody sort of shoved me in that direction and told me to look. What an honor.

“The first thing I wanted to do is figure out some way to thank them. If I could’ve run up there and shook everyone’s hands, I would have. It was so cool, so unexpected, and for a guy who started out playing in the lower divisions and dreamed of getting to MLS, the chance to see your name on a huge poster was just fantastic.”

Another longtime Sounder, Roger Levesque, was asked about what he thought.

“Absolutely awesome — well deserved,” he said. “Zach has been the consummate professional for the Sounders. He’s a great dude. Just to see that kind of recognition from the ECS, very well deserved, and definitely some butterflies seeing that go up.”

So does Scott really have a surfboard with a Brek Shea decal?

“I’ll ask the guys from Hemel if they can throw some stencil art on the board they gave me,” he joked.

What did you think of the tifo in honor of a longtime Sounder?
