No team has ever won four U.S. Open Cups in a row, but the three-time champion Sounders will have a chance.
Here are the details for this year’s championship game, following Seattle’s 4-1 semifinal win over Chivas USA:
Wednesday, Aug. 8 — Seattle Sounders FC (MLS) at Sporting Kansas City: LIVESTRONG Sporting Park; Kansas City, Kan.; time TBD
Sporting K.C. clinched the first berth into the final with a 2-0 road win Wednesday against the Philadelphia Union. By virtue of a coin toss, U.S. Soccer granted Kansas City hosting rights over Seattle after the federation determined that the teams’ bids were equal.
This will be Sporting K.C.’s second Open Cup final after winning in 2004, but the team will be without star defender Aurelien Collin, an MLS All-Star First XI pick, due to yellow card accumulation.
