What was a unique and memorable season for the Sounders Women ended Sunday with a 1-0 loss to the Pali Blues in the Western Conference championship game of the W-League playoffs.
The Pali Blues, who beat Seattle three times this season, got a second-half goal from Lynn Williams and will join the D.C. United Women, the Quebec City Amiral, and the host Ottawa Fury in the W-League Championship this weekend.
The Sounders were without stars Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe and Sydney Leroux, who are with the U.S. women’s national team for the Olympics. Their participation this year played a vital role in the huge crowds at Starfire Stadium
So will they come back for 2013? That’s one of the big questions heading into the offseason (Sounder at Heart has updates on the future plans for a few).
That, of course, is dependent on the future of women’s professional soccer and how it coincides with the goals of Sounders ownership.
Should be interesting stuff to follow.
