Back to it (Tuesday links)

The Sounders return to practice this morning — it will be the first one I’ve covered in about two weeks — so I’ll have some updates later in the afternoon. They’ll be gearing up for Saturday’s rivalry game against Vancouver, which has big implications for playoff seeding. More than 50,000 are expected to watch at CenturyLink Field as the stadium is opened for the Cascadia clash.

Here are a few links:

— In some coaching updates, former MLS player Craig Waibel has joined the staff of his alma mater (and mine), the University of Washington. He’ll replace another Husky that played in MLS, Brandon Prideaux, who left for a job outside of athletics. Also, Sounders Women’s defender Stephanie Cox has joined the University of Puget Sound coaching staff.

— Around the league, here’s a report on a potential new stadium deal in New York, Galaxy star Landon Donovan was named MLS Player of the Week for his four-assist effort vs. Chivas USA, and Chicago midfielder Marco Pappa will be heading to the Netherlands upon season’s end.

— As the U.S. men’s national team prepares for Wednesday’s friendly in Mexico, here’s an ESPN.com piece that looks at the gap between the two federations.

— Rookie defender Andrew Duran, who’s on loan with NASL’s Atlanta, had this Q&A in the Silverbacks’ program.

— Lastly, here’s goalkeeper Michael Gspurning with a video tutorial on how to pronounce his last name. He posted this on Twitter, and here’s hoping it’s the start of a new series.
