U.S. men’s national team earns historic win in Mexico (video highlights)

Here are the video highlights from a night to remember in American soccer.

For the first time in history, the U.S. men’s national team beat Mexico on Mexican soil, ending a 75-year drought. Our country’s record before Wednesday’s 1-0 exhibition win at Azteca Stadium was 0-23-1 (0-19-1 at the Mexico City venue).

Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl and ESPN.com’s Jeff Carlisle were on the scene.

The goal came from a trio of substitutes. Brek Shea, who’s been struggling this MLS season, started the play on the left wing. He centered a ball into forward Terrence Boyd, who back-heeled the ball to defender Michael Orozco-Fiscal in front of the goal, where he knocked in the 80th-minute winner.

Goalkeeper Tim Howard was amazing in preserving the shutout and the win. Defender Geoff Cameron was another standout at center back. Maybe all the pregame talk about a supposed “gap” between the federations will quiet down.

* * *

What did you make of the game? Who stood out? What about that “gap”?
