Second-half surges have been a pattern for Sounders FC, and such has been the case again this season. Seattle is 4-1-2 in MLS since the midway point on its push up the Western Conference standings.
Here’s how the Sounders have fared through 24 league games in years past:
2012: 11-6-7 (40 points)
2011: 11-5-8 (41 points)
2010: 9-9-6 (33 points)
2009: 8-6-10 (34 points)
Seattle, which has lost just once since mid-June, would earn its best record through 25 games with a win Saturday at Chivas USA. The 2011 Sounders tied their 25th to give them 42 points at that point.
As a reminder of the team’s second-half successes, Seattle went 7-4-4 after the midway point in 2009, 10-2-3 in 2010, and 12-3-2 in 2011.
