CCL action returns this week (Tuesday links)

ccl logo.jpgThe Sounders have a bye week in CONCACAF Champions League action, but the three other MLS teams participating will play this week. All of the games will be broadcast on FOX Soccer.

First off, Real Salt Lake hosts Panamanian club Tauro FC at 7 p.m. tonight. Then the Houston Dynamo visit C.D. FAS of El Salvador at 7 p.m. Wednesday and the Los Angeles Galaxy host Isidro Metapan, also of El Salvador, at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Here’s a good breakdown from FOXSoccer.com of what are some hard-to-scout opponents.

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— It looks like it’s official: Mario Martinez will wear No. 15 this season (Alvaro Fernandez‘ old number).

— A couple Sounders Women’s standouts from last season, Kate Deines and Veronica Perez, continue their adventure in Iceland, which you can follow on their blog.

— Red-hot FC Dallas has been busy recently, signing 25-year-old forward Matias Jara, loaning out forward Ruben Luna and, of course, there was David Ferreira winning MLS Player of the Week.

— Also around the league, Honduran midfielder Hendry Thomas has signed with Colorado, homegrown product Doneil Henry has signed a long-term deal with Toronto and Timbers owner Merritt Paulson expands on his defense of GM/interim coach Gavin Wilkinson.

— On the Americans abroad scene, goalkeeper Tim Howard had a good week, shutting out Mexico in a historic win at Azteca Stadium with the U.S. men’s national team followed up by a shutout win at home against Manchester United to kick off the Premiership season. Also, forward Jozy Altidore is off to a scorching start in Holland and midfielder Michael Bradley will wear No. 4 for AS Roma.
