Michael Tetteh loaned out to Ft. Lauderdale Strikers of the NASL

Tetteh, Seattle’s top pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, has played a couple reserve games but is yet to feature in first-team competition this season. Last summer, he went on loan to Orlando City SC of the USL Pro league.

The Sounders can recall Tetteh if needed, according to a team release.

“I think it’s good for Michael,” coach Sigi Schmid said. “I think he needs to play games. Ft. Lauderdale needed a player to play on the left-hand side. They’ve got three games to go before the playoffs [Ed note: the Strikers have five regular-season games left] and I think if he appears in all three of those games that he’s eligible for the playoffs for them. I think it’ll be good. As a player he’s trained a lot, had a lot of injuries at the beginning of this year with his hamstring. He’s healthy now and so this is an opportunity for him to get on the field and get some confidence and play.”

I asked today if Tetteh is running out of time to show Schmid something.

“You never know,” the coach said. “David Estrada took two years and then in preseason of his third year hit his stride. So you can never say never in that regard. Certainly he’s had some opportunities, hasn’t made optimum use of those yet, and now he’s just got to use the next opportunities when they come along.”

The UC Santa Barbara product will be eligible for Ft. Lauderdale’s game Saturday against the San Antonio Scorpions.

“Michael’s an exciting attacking player,” said Strikers coach Daryl Shore in a news release. “He’s a left-sided guy but can also play on the right. I feel like he’ll fit in right away with our group. We have a very good locker room, and everything we’ve heard about Michael is that he’s a team player. He’s excited to get down here and help our team try and win a championship.”

Added Tetteh in the release: “I’m very excited to join the team and have the opportunity to contribute however I can.”
