Sounders FC vs. Chivas USA, open thread

Just a heads up — this road trip was not budgeted, so I won’t be at The Home Depot Center with in-game updates. We will have someone on the scene to provide game coverage and get feedback from Sounders players and coaches.

I will be attending a family event this evening, but while there won’t be any live coverage on the blog, I encourage you to post in the comments section.

Here are a couple story lines to consider:

* * *

Who starts at left midfield? I focused on this issue on the blog a couple days ago and it will be interesting to see what coach Sigi Schmid does.

Does Fredy Montero keep it up? The star forward has goals in his last three MLS games, which is tied for the longest active streak in the league. It’s also a team high this season.

Will the Sounders earn a team-best record through 25 games? Here’s a post from earlier this week that shows a win against Chivas USA will establish a new team-best record after 25 games. Seattle has done well to get back in that position after a franchise-worst nine-game winless streak earlier this year.

How do the Big Four look? Schmid implied Friday that this will be the first game all three DPs (Montero, Mauro Rosales and Christian Tiffert) start alongside leading scorer Eddie Johnson. That had been the plan against Vancouver, but Montero had been dealing with a family matter. We’ll see how the new-look attack works. And don’t forget about Mario Martinez, who looks set to make his debut in some capacity.

* * *

Hope you enjoy the game. I’ll be back with updates (highlights, quotes, stats, etc.) afterward.
