Sounders surging in power rankings leaguewide (Tuesday links)

Seattle Sounders FC Logo.jpgA 6-2 road win will garner some attention from around the league, and that is clearly visible in MLS power rankings this week from various outlets.

Sounders FC is climbed as high as No. 2 in rankings from ESPN.com and FOXSports.com. Seattle isn’t much lower on MLSsoccer.com, SI.com and Goal.com.

My rankings will be coming out later this afternoon and you can expect to see a similar jump.

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— There’s some CCL action tonight as Mexico’s Santos Laguna travels to Toronto FC for a 5 p.m. group-stage game. You can watch on the FOX Soccer Channel.

— Around the league, Sporting KC forward Teal Bunbury is out for the year with a knee injury, New England has acquired midfielder Juan Toja through the allocation process (updated order here), and here’s a story wondering if Dax McCarty has been the Red Bulls’ MVP this season.

— Also, D.C. United midfielder Raphael Augusto has joined the team after being acquired on loan, Sporting KC midfielder Roger Espinoza is reportedly drawing interest from Wigan of the EPL, and Fredy Montero has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week.

— Oregonian columnist John Canzano weighs in on the Timbers, specifically a little spat between owner Merritt Paulson and the fans. Canzano also notes that season-ticket prices will not go up next year. Elsewhere, Portland broadcaster John Strong tweeted this morning that JELD-WEN Field will be getting wider.

— On the local college scene, a Husky and a Redhawk each earned some recognition recently.

— Lastly, a couple Sounders Women from last season won the Icelandic Cup. Also, there will be a Hope Solo feature during the return of ESPN’s E:60 television show today at 4 p.m. and Solo’s grandmother drew some headlines for her role as a goalkeeper in an upcoming short film.
