My MLS power rankings — Week 26

San Jose Earthquakes Logo.jpg1. (1) San Jose Earthquakes 16-6-5

Star forward Chris Wondolowski has just one goal in seven games, but the team has gone 4-2-1.

2. (2) Sporting Kansas City 15-7-5

Fifteen wins are already most in a season since 2000 (16), including last year’s East-leading 13.

3. (3) Seattle Sounders FC 12-6-8

Steve Zakuani’s burst of old on Sunday’s spectacular assist turned heads around the league.

4. (4) New York Red Bulls 13-7-7

Could Wilman Conde be the answer at left back? He starred and scored there vs. D.C.

5. (6) Chicago Fire 13-8-5

Owns the league’s best record after scoring first (8-0-1) after Seattle couldn’t hold on in Dallas.

6. (7) Real Salt Lake 14-10-4

Heads to Houston on Thursday having never won in Texas: 0-17-3 in all competitions.

7. (8) Los Angeles Galaxy 13-11-4

37 years old? No problem. David Beckham has indicated that he might keep playing in 2013.

8. (9) Columbus Crew 12-8-6

Four straight wins. Six games unbeaten. There might not be a hotter team in the league.

9. (5) Houston Dynamo 11-7-9

Fourteen goals in the final 15 minutes of games is second only to the never-say-die ‘Quakes.

10. (10) Montreal Impact 12-14-3

M Patrice Bernier won MLS Player of the Month for August with 3G, 3A in four wins.

11. (12) FC Dallas 8-12-9

Making up ground for a playoff berth, but could’ve used two more points vs. Seattle.

12. (11) D.C. United 12-10-5

Schedule sets up nicely down the stretch with the next five games against some of MLS’s worst.

13. (13) Vancouver Whitecaps FC 10-11-7

Captain Jay DeMerit recently picked up the bar tab for some fans after a loss to rival Portland.

14. (14) Philadelphia Union 7-13-5

Removed the interim label from coach John Hackworth, who’s gone 5-6-3 since taking over.

15. (15) Chivas USA 7-11-7

Always had a strong ‘D’ amid a poor season. Now allowing 13 goals in three games.

16. (18) Portland Timbers FC 7-13-6

Bright Dike has been an unlikely hero with two goals in the first three starts of his MLS career.

17. (16) Colorado 8-17-2

If there’s any hope for a third straight playoff berth, it’ll require a home win vs. the Timbers.

18. (17) Toronto FC 5-16-6

Unfortunately it looks like it’ll be the same sad song again. Six years. No playoffs berths.

19. (19) New England Revolution 6-14-7

The winless streak is at 10 games and star forward Saer Sene (torn ACL) is out for the year.
