Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson has been named MLS Player of the Week for his two-goal performance in Saturday’s comeback win at home against Chivas USA.
This marks the fifth time Johnson has earned the honor in his career and second time with Seattle; he also won for his role in the Sounders’ 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy in Week 22.
Johnson, who set a franchise record Saturday with 13 goals in a season, collected 17 of the 20 first-place votes from the North American Soccer Reporters panel.
Since MLS began recording how goals were scored in 2003, no player has had more headed goals in a season than Johnson’s nine.
David Estrada is the only other Sounder to win MLS Player of the Week this season, which came after a hat trick in Seattle’s home opener against Toronto FC.
