A goal to remember (Monday links)

You have to see this goal by Red Bulls star Thierry Henry against Columbus over the weekend. They call these Olimpicos or Olympic goals when they’re scored directly off a corner kick.

If you remember, Chicago Fire midfielder Marco Pappa had one of those against the Sounders earlier this season.

Henry’s latest could very well by an MLS Goal of the Year candidate.

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— Let’s start off on the local college scene where the UW men split a couple games in Alabama and had a few guys named to an all-tournament team. The Husky women suffered their first loss of the season against BYU. Over at Seattle U, the men and women both lost over the weekend.

— Around MLS, Real Salt Lake sneaked in a signing before the roster freeze, Colorado made a late addition too, the Galaxy and league are being sued over the Robbie Keane signing, and New England was eliminated from possible playoff contention with a loss in D.C.

— Also, FC Dallas’ Julian de Guzman scored a late winner vs. Vancouver (his phenomenal goal here) and opened up with some interesting quotes afterward.

— Did you see an armadillo will be the mascot for the FIFA World Cup 2014?

— Fans voted “Aviators” as the team name for the new PASL team in Arlington and here’s some information on tryouts for the Tacoma Stars.

— Regarding some Americans abroad, Clint Dempsey made his debut for Tottenham and Jozy Altidore is on fire in the Dutch league.

— Lastly, the U.S. women’s national team came back to beat Australia, 2-1, behind a stellar goal by Alex Morgan. Check out the federation’s YouTube page for highlights and interviews.
