Sounders FC’s final 2012 roster

Seattle Sounders FC Logo.jpgWith the freeze of MLS rosters over the weekend, I had a request from a reader to post what will be Sounders FC’s squad through the MLS Cup (with or without Seattle’s involvement).

The signing of veteran goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann was the only made the Sounders made before the deadline; the team had also brought in Eidur Gudjohnsen and George Ogararu on trial. GM Adrian Hanauer discussed those situations a bit more in this post.

Here’s your final Sounders FC roster for 2012 (some positions are interchangeable):

Goalkeepers (5): Michael Gspurning, Marcus Hahnemann, Andrew Weber, Josh Ford, Bryan Meredith

Defenders (9): Jeff Parke, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Patrick Ianni, Zach Scott, Adam Johansson, Leo Gonzalez, Marc Burch, Daniel Steres, Andrew Duran

Midfielders (11): Osvaldo Alonso, Mauro Rosales, Christian Tiffert, Steve Zakuani, Brad Evans, Mario Martinez, Andy Rose, Alex Caskey, Servando Carrasco, Cordell Cato, Michael Seamon

Forwards (4): Fredy Montero, Eddie Johnson, Sammy Ochoa, David Estrada

Injured list (1): Babayele Sodade

On loan (1): Michael Tetteh

* * *

A couple notes, this is 31 players under contract but Sodade and Tetteh don’t count toward the 30-man active roster (though those two are eligible for future MLS Reserve League and CONCACAF Champions League games). This is also the first time the Sounders have had five goalkeepers under contract.

Update 9:33 a.m. — I’ve been asked to clarify the situations of Sodade and Tetteh. Both are under contract but not on the active roster (Sodade because he’s on the injured list and Tetteh because he’s with another team on loan). This means that they’re not eligible for MLS games, regular season and playoffs. Essentially anyone, however, can play reserve games. Also, anyone under contract is eligible to play in CCL and Open Cup games.
