NOTE: This is a prescheduled post since today is a furlough day. I just wanted to have at least something on the blog during my day off.
Sounders FC will hope to close the gap on MLS-leading San Jose in Saturday’s home game at CenturyLink Field. But while Seattle is currently off the pace in the Supporters’ Shield race, the team has matched its club-record pace through 28 league games.
Here’s a look:
2012: 13-6-9 (48 points)
2011: 13-6-9 (48 points)
2010: 13-9-6 (45 points)
2009: 10-7-11 (41 points)
To keep up with the 2011 Sounders, who finished 18-7-9 for a franchise-best 63 points, this year’s team will have to win the next three and five of the last six. In the club’s first two years, the MLS regular season was only 30 games long, so the comparisons for those teams will end soon.
