Sounders take a day off (Monday links)

The Sounders are taking today off from training after working through the weekend, so there won’t be any practice notes until Tuesday.

Here are a couple links:

* * *

— Vancouver rookie Darren Mattocks was ranked No. 1 in MLSsoccer.com’s 24 Under 24 series. The Sounders will likely get another look at him this weekend in a Cascadia Cup clash at BC Place.

— More information was made available on the tragic death of Crew midfielder Kirk Urso.

— Here’s a weekly update on some Sounders academy alums in college.

— Speaking of college soccer, the Husky men responded from an overtime loss to Brown with a shutout win over Seattle U. The Redhawks were coming off an exciting win over Portland. The UW women are winless in three after dropping their Pac-12 opener at USC. The Seattle U women improved to 5-5 with a win over Utah Valley.

— Sounder at Heart has been undergoing some changes. Here’s an update on Part 3.

GoalWA.net has the story on a Cheney High School soccer player who has overcome a brain tumor.

— U.S. women’s national team star Alex Morgan did this video interview with People.com.

— Here’s an MLS video presented by the Marines on Servando Carrasco and his mother, Gloria, a cancer survivor. I covered this story last year for the paper. As a heads-up, the final minute or so is about the Marines.
