Almost time to vote (Wednesday links)

Sounders FC’s commitment to “Democracy in Sports” is catching on around the league, but fans here already knew all about the upcoming vote to retain or remove general manager Adrian Hanauer. The idea was inspired by part owner Drew Carey on a practice shared by FC Barcelona among others.

We’ll certainly have more coverage on this the closer we get and throughout the process, but the team released some details on the vote Tuesday and here are some highlights:

— The vote will run from Oct. 7 (the same day as the big Portland home game) and will run to Dec. 7.

— Only season-ticket holders and Alliance members are eligible to vote.

— There must be 10,000 ballots cast for the vote to be valid.

— The result will be announced during a Dec. 13 business meeting.

— You can vote in person during home games Oct. 7, 17 or 21.

— You can also vote online at SoundersFCvote.com, which also has a bunch of FAQs in case you have other questions.

Let’s get to some links:

— Season-ticket holders and Alliance members can also vote on the design for next year’s scarves. Check out the options here.

Here’s a podcast that wonders if Christian Tiffert was the league’s biggest midseason addition.

— Why is FIFA 13 so popular? ESPN.com takes a look and the MLS Insider was at the launch party. Here’s some reaction from Sounders FC’s Fredy Montero on being included on the cover (he has his own individual cover available for download, as well).

— Regarding the Sounders rival to the north, here’s a look at Vancouver’s playoff push. Another story focuses on new forward Kenny Miller and someone else takes a look at the Whitecaps leading the league in fouls. Also, less than 700 tickets remain for this weekend’s game.

— Here’s a story that looks at strength of schedule to close out the season. The finding? Seattle has an easier slate than conference rivals Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles.

— Toronto FC isn’t getting it done in MLS. CCL is another story.

— In some other links, Soccer America looks closer at the rosters of the playoff contenders, the Union are going to share PPL Park with a Lingerie Football League team, New York’s Rafa Marquez is injured again, attendance in D.C. is still a struggle, and here’s a story on San Diego soccer fans’ affinity for Mexican club Xolos of Tijuana.

— Lastly, here’s to a safe fast for those practicing.
