CCL update and more (Thursday links)

ccl standings.jpgSounders FC has already clinched Group 4 but the CONCACAF Champions League is continuing on.

Elsewhere in Seattle’s group, CD Marathon of Honduras earned a 2-1 home win Wednesday against Caledonia AIA of Trinidad and Tobago. Posted above are how the standings look with one games to go (the Sounders hosts Marathon on Oct. 24 with only quarterfinal seeding implications on the line).

If you take a look at the full standings, the Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo also have good chances of making it to the quarterfinals (LA can clinch tonight if the Puerto Rico Islanders beat Isidro Metapan of El Salvador). Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC have some work to do to make the final eight.

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— As of yesterday, the ECS still had some game-only ($37) and bus/game tickets ($73) for the Vancouver road game Saturday. You can look into it if interested.

— Regarding the upcoming Portland game, here’s a reminder that Gorilla FC is planting 10 trees for every Sounders goal scored against the Timbers. That will happen on Oct. 14, a week after the game. Oh, and that supporters group is also endorsing Adrian Hanauer in the upcoming GM vote.

— I love this new results page on MLSsoccer.com.

Here’s more on your chance to vote on next year’s season-ticket holders scarf.

— Around the league, here’s an update on Chris Wondolowski‘s chase for the MLS scoring record (he also was the best in last week’s Castrol rankings), Portland is the only team that hasn’t earned a penalty kick yet, and is Toronto FC making its last two home games free?.

— Also, Peter Nowak‘s lawsuit against the Union has reportedly been dismissed, here’s a preview of Kyle Beckerman‘s MLS 36 episode, and USMNT defender Michael Orozco talks about wanting to come back to the league.

— Did you see John Terry was banned four games and fined for his racial abuse of QPR’s Anton Ferdinand?

— Did you see the Zinedine Zidane headbutt from the 2006 FIFA World Cup final has been immortalized with a statue?

— And lastly, good work by the guys at Sounder at Heart to find the video of Alex Morgan teaching Conan O’Brien how to dance to the Just Dance video game.
