My MLS power rankings — Week 30

San Jose Earthquakes Logo.jpg1. (1) San Jose Earthquakes 18-6-7

Only 13 MLS players have 10+ goals. The ‘Quakes have three (Wondolowski, Lenhart, Gordon).

2. (3) Sporting Kansas City 17-7-7

Graham Zusi has become an A-list star in MLS. Can he also do it for the national team?

3. (2) Chicago Fire 16-9-5

Team has made an impassioned push for defender Austin Berry to be Rookie of the Year.

4. (5) New York Red Bulls 15-8-8

A sublime performance vs. Toronto has put Thierry Henry (14G, 12A) in the MVP conversation.

5. (6) Real Salt Lake 16-11-4

Alvaro Saborio netted his second hat trick since July in a 4-0 romp over Chivas USA.

6. (4) Los Angeles Galaxy 15-11-5

The loss of A.J. DeLaGarza (knee) until the playoffs will hurt in the West’s race for seeding.

7. (7) Seattle Sounders FC 13-7-10

Won’t be sad to see Sept. go after a 1-1-3 record fell short of traditional late-season success.

8. (9) Houston Dynamo 13-8-10

Surprise! BBVA Compass Stadium will host the Mexico-Guyana World Cup qualifier on Oct. 12.

9. (8) D.C. United 15-10-6

Has gone an impressive 3-0-1 since losing Dwayne De Rosario for the year with a knee injury.

10. (10) FC Dallas 9-12-10

Would’ve jumped into a playoff position in the West had it not allowed a late equalizer to San Jose.

11. (11) Columbus Crew 14-11-6

Helped out greatly in the race for a playoff spot when an offside goal was wrongfully allowed.

12. (12) Montreal Impact 12-15-4

Midfielders Felipe Martins (70) and Davy Arnaud (69) lead the league in fouls suffered.

13. (13) Vancouver Whitecaps FC 10-12-9

Should they miss out on the playoffs, Camilo’s last-second miss vs. Seattle won’t be forgotten.

14. (15) Colorado Rapids 9-18-4

If Drew Moor stays on pace, he’ll have played every minutes of two of the past three seasons.

15. (16) Portland Timbers FC 7-15-9

Owner was fined $25,000 after confronting refs on the field and also ranting on Twitter.

16. (14) Philadelphia Union 8-15-6

Offense is dead last in the league in shots (331), shots on goal (101) and assists (18).

17. (17) New England Revolution 7-16-8

2012 will be the season of “What if?” with a league-worst 2-14 record in one-goal games.

18. (18) Chivas USA 7-16-7

What was worse in September? Six losses? Just one goal scored? 14 goals allowed?

19. (19) Toronto FC 5-19-7

Bookends to the year have been dreadful — nine straight losses to start, 11 games winless now.
