I try not to excessively link to our own work, but I will just this time. I had a larger story run in the paper today on Sounders FC’s upcoming GM vote, so here it is if you missed it. And here are corresponding interviews with Drew Carey and Joe Roth. My focus in the story was less on the vote and more on the bigger picture — a commitment from the team to treat its fans like partners and not just customers.
Our columnist Steve Kelley spent some time with said GM, Adrian Hanauer, this week for this piece on the subject.
In lieu of a “vote him in” or “vote him out” poll, which we assume would’ve been one-sided, here’s a poll we ran on all GMs of Seattle’s professional sports teams.
Let’s get to some links:
* * *
— The Sounders are counting down Roger Levesque‘s Top 10 moments with the team. You can check ’em out on their YouTube page.
— Technical director Chris Henderson was a guest on MLSsoccer.com’s ExtraTime Radio, if you’d like to check that out.
— And some more, Chicago’s Guillermo Franco was suspended an extra game for this tackle, here’s a feature on Houston’s Brad Davis (even if he might not play this weekend), and a young American prodigy once targeted by MLS has signed with Borussia Dortmund.
— Also, did you see Thierry Henry‘s ode to the MetroStars last game?
— Want to know why player salaries are released by the union? It’s addressed in this podcast.
— Did you see the NASL commissioner stepped down?
— Lastly, a funny bit from Conan O’Brien that involves soccer as captured by our friends at Gorilla FC…
