Jesse Marsch out as Montreal Impact coach, Brian Schmetzer not contacted about job

Montreal Impact Logo.jpgWhen I heard the news out of Montreal — the Impact and coach Jesse Marsch have agreed to part ways after their first season — my thoughts immediately went to Brian Schmetzer.

The Sounders FC assistant coach, as I reported in this story earlier in the year, had interviewed back in 2011 to be head coach of the expansion side.

So has Schmetzer been contacted by Montreal about the position? I’ve been told the answer is no.

Does that mean he won’t get a call? Not necessarily. Does that mean another team hasn’t or won’t call? No, but you have to think there will be some interest at some point.

As another part of Impact’s announcement, it was made known that Preston Burpo (a lower league Sounder from 1997-2005) won’t return as the team’s goalkeeper coach. Physical preparation coach Adam Rotchstein is out, too.

Assistant coach Mauro Biello will serve as interim coach during a postseason trip to Italy.

Sounds like a messy end to Year 1 (more on that here), which actually wasn’t that bad on the field.
