Eddie Johnson returned to practice Monday, but he is no longer the most worrisome injury concern for Sounders FC.
Midfielder Mauro Rosales did not practice and was inside getting testing, according to coach Sigi Schmid. Rosales appeared to suffer a hamstring injury in the final minutes of Friday’s first game in a Western Conference semifinal against Real Salt Lake.
“They wanted to do some testing and so forth and see where’s he at, make sure that we have a chance to get him to play in the game on Thursday,” Schmid said. “So we’ll know more tomorrow, but we wanted him to stay off the field today.”
So is he in doubt to play in the series finale at Rio Tinto Stadium?
“Possibly,” the coach said. “We have to look at what everything says, what the medical people say, and then we’ll have an idea exactly if he’ll be able to go. It’s like Eddie’s (injury) a little bit — it’s not as bad as we initially felt it was, maybe. So now it’s just a matter of seeing how he comes along each day.”
And is there any doubt regarding Johnson’s status?
“No,” Schmid said.
The forward confirmed as much. When Johnson was asked if he’ll definitely be playing, he said, “For sure.”
