It was a wild day of MLS Cup playoff action Wednesday.
First off, the second leg of the D.C. United-NY Red Bulls series was postponed to 4:30 p.m. Thursday due to a snowstorm at Red Bull Arena. The game will be televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network.
Also out East, the No. 5 seed Houston Dynamo completed an upset of top-ranked Sporting Kansas City, holding on for a 2-1 aggregate win at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. This result kept Sounders FC’s hopes alive of hosting MLS Cup since Houston is the only team Seattle could host in the final.
Lastly in the West, fourth-seeded Los Angeles Galaxy earned a big road win against No. 1 San Jose to take the series 3-2 on aggregate.
The Galaxy will host the first leg of the Western Conference finals against the Sounders FC-Real Salt Lake winner on 6 p.m. Sunday. The second leg will be either Nov. 17 or 18.
Worth noting, the final two berths for the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League will be earned by the two MLS Cup finalists. There will be no backing into the tournament with San Jose and Kansas City out.
