David Beckham announced Monday afternoon that the 2012 MLS Cup will be his last game with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The 37 year old signed with the league back in 2007 and has played for the Galaxy the past six seasons. He’ll get to end his run in front of his home fans in the Dec. 1 championship game against the Houston Dynamo at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
This will be Beckham’s third MLS Cup, but much of his impact with the team and the league has come off the field when it comes to exposure, marketing, merchandising, TV deals, etc.
“I’ve had an incredibly special time playing for the LA Galaxy, however, I wanted to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career,” he said in a news release. “I don’t see this as the end of my relationship with the league as my ambition is to be part of the ownership structure in the future.”
Does that mean he’s retiring? Doesn’t sound like it. Does it mean he’s going to Australia? Possibly.
Any thoughts on this one?
