NCAA men’s tournament down to final eight

ncaa soccer.jpgThird-round games in the NCAA men’s soccer tournament were played over the weekend, as the field has been narrowed down to eight teams.

Here are the quarterfinal matchups (full bracket here):

No. 9 North Carolina (16-3-3) vs. No. 16 Indiana (13-5-3), Friday, 3 p.m.

No. 3 Georgetown (18-3-2) vs. San Diego (14-8-0), Saturday, 10 a.m.

No. 2 Maryland (19-1-2) vs. No. 10 Louisville (14-5-1), Saturday, 2 p.m.

No. 4 Connecticut (16-3-2) vs. No. 12 Creighton (16-3-3), Sunday, 10 a.m.

So any programs with Sounders connections? Well, here’s a list I’ve put together involving players from the 2012 season, starting with those teams still in it, those that lost in the tournament, and then those that didn’t qualify:

Marc Burch, Maryland — Top seed left, beat Coastal Carolina in third round

Andrew Duran, Creighton — Upset Akron in third round

Josh Ford, UConn — Beat New Mexico in third round

David Estrada/Patrick Ianni/Andy Rose, UCLA — Lost to San Diego in second round

Jeff Parke, Drexel — Lost to Brown in first round

Babayele Sodade, UAB — Lost to Charlotte in first round

Andrew Weber, New Mexico — Lost to UConn in third round

Steve Zakuani, Akron — Lost to Creighton in third round

Servando Carrasco, Cal — Did not qualify

Alex Caskey, Davidson — Did not qualify

Brad Evans, UC Irvine — Did not qualify

Marcus Hahnemann, Seattle Pacific — Did not qualify

Bryan Meredith, Monmouth — Did not qualify

Zach Scott, Gonzaga — Did not qualify

Mike Seamon, Villanova — Did not qualify

Daniel Steres, San Diego State — Did not qualify

Michael Tetteh, UC Santa Barbara — Did not qualify
