One more day until MLS Cup (Friday links)

It has been 315 days since Sounders FC opened preseason camp. Amazingly, the MLS season still isn’t over.

It will be tomorrow, though, when the Los Angeles Galaxy host the Houston Dynamo for the championship. Until then, here are some links:

* * *

— First off, SI’s Grant Wahl has a must-read Q&A with MLS commissioner Don Garber. I had intended to ask Garber about officiating during the State of the League conference call, but wasn’t able to since the call ended before my turn. Garber addressed the issue with Wahl, and PRO GM Peter Walton gave the other perspective here.

Roger Levesque will be a special guest at this holiday event at Swedish medical center.

— Here’s another report indicating the Sounders are close to signing Wilmer Crisanto of Honduras. Links to this move have been active since September.

— You see this funny bit during David Beckham‘s press conference Thursday? Also, here’s a look back on the Beckham era from its first coach, Frank Yallop (who just won MLS Coach of the Year with San Jose).

— A story on the league website has the two coaches in the MLS Cup, Bruce Arena and Dominic Kinnear, on the proverbial Mt. Rushmore of MLS coaches. Sigi Schmid is there, too. The fourth is up for debate. Goal.com also looks at Arena and Kinnear.

— In more MLS Cup stories, here’s a feature on Robbie Keane, here’s one of Bobby Boswell, and another on the overlooked Dynamo.

— Around the league, here’s a story on Kevin Payne introduction at Toronto FC, here are Soccer America’s rankings of left midfielders (with a Sounder in the top five), the re-entry draft is coming up, and once again it sounds like Chivas USA’s GM appears on the way out.

Columbus and San Jose announced some roster moves recently with some interesting cuts. Not as interesting as FC Dallas apparently cutting ties with veteran goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.

— On the women’s soccer front, Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux led the USWNT to a big win over Ireland the other day. The game was played in Portland, where Timbers owner Merritt Paulson chatted about the new pro league (as did some USWNT stars). Cheryl Bailey will be the executive director of said league, according to a U.S. Soccer release.

— Closer to home, the Jet City Auxiliary expressed backing for the Sounders Women in what has become a somewhat complicated local scene.

— “What to do about Hope Solo?” is the opening to this story.

— Here are some preliminary plans for a USMNT camp in January.

— Here’s another look at some of the NBC television numbers from this past MLS season. This report looks more at ESPN’s figures, as well.

— Here’s a Q&A on SoundersFC.com regarding ticket upgrades for next season.

— TopDrawerSoccer lists Akron defender DeAndre Yedlin as a likely homegrown signing in the near future. He’s a Sounders FC academy product.

— Also regarding college soccer, here’s the latest big board from SBI and here are the Hermann Trophy semifinalists.

— Sounders FC goalkeeper-turned-broadcast Kasey Keller turned 43 years old Thursday. He’ll be an analyst for ESPN as a part of the network’s MLS Cup coverage.

— Around the world of soccer, Clint Dempsey said he wasn’t much appreciated at Fulham, Brazil has brought back Luis Felipe Scolari to coach its national team, and here are the finalists for the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2012.

— In case you missed it, here’s another tribute to Mike Ryan, a local soccer pioneer.

Here’s an update on the Tacoma Stars.

— Lastly, all 30 goals so far this postseason…
