The final day of the 2012 MLS season is here, as the Los Angeles Galaxy will host the Houston Dynamo for the league championship (a repeat of last year, when LA won 1-0).
ESPN’s coverage starts at 1:30 p.m., and Kasey Keller will be a part of the broadcast team as an analyst.
A few interesting local connections with both teams (mostly Houston). The Dynamo have former lower-league Sounders in coach Dominic Kinnear, Brian Ching and Cam Weaver. Nathan Sturgis used to play for the MLS Sounders and goalkeeper Tally Hall is a Gig Harbor native.
On the Galaxy side, coach Bruce Arena played for the Tacoma Tides and started his coaching career at the University of Puget Sound. Pat Noonan is a former MLS Sounder.
For a little pregame read, here’s a story from a TIME Magazine blog on MLS being a threat to the NHL (an argument that carries a little less weight when you call MLS commission Don Garber “Dan”, but it’s interesting nonetheless).
Feel free to participate throughout the day in the comments section.
