Los Angeles Galaxy repeats as MLS champion

* * *

The stage was set. The Los Angeles Galaxy delivered.

In David Beckham‘s final MLS game, L.A. overcame a halftime deficit to beat the Houston Dynamo, 3-1, in Saturday’s 2012 MLS Cup at The Home Depot Center. The Galaxy successfully defended its title, and if you remember, is a penalty-kick shootout in 2009 from having won three of the last four championships.

Dynasty?

It didn’t look that way in the first half, when Houston took a 1-0 lead just before the break on a goal by Calen Carr. L.A. responded with goal by Omar Gonzalez off a Juninho cross and capped the scoring with a couple PKs, which inevitably led to some grumbles but looked to be the correct calls in my opinion.

Landon Donovan, who missed a tap-in goal in the early minutes, scored the go-ahead goal and Robbie Keane sealed the win in extra time. That allowed Beckham to get a sendoff just before the final whistle.

What did you think about Saturday’s game?
